Accessibility is a very important element in any game, as games are amazing and should be able to be enjoyed by as many as possible! We are super excited about the release of Schim and wanted to shed some light on the way we have included accessibility in the design process from the start of the project.

With this article we would like to give you some insights into the thoughts and challenges we (Ewoud van der Werf and Nils Slijkerman) faced along the way. We will split them up into a couple of different angles.

Visuals

Schim has a distinct art style, which is also feedback we hear from players. The art style itself was heavily influenced by the fact that Ewoud has a form of color blindness. He had a clear vision of how he wanted the game to look. The visual style is built up out of multiple custom-made shaders. Ewoud originally wanted to create one color palette for the full...

Dragon Ball games have been making their mark in console gaming for over the last decade with the release of the Xenoverse series, Kakarot, and FighterZ.

Now, in 2024, Dragon Ball fans have gathered to celebrate the return of the beloved Budokai Tenkaichi series. This action battle franchise was last released in 2007 on the PlayStation 2 as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 in the Americas and Europe and Dragon Ball Z: Sparking Meteor in Asia.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, the next chapter in the Budokai Tenkaichi series, will launch on October 11, 2024, on PlayStation 5. This installment not only continues the series’ legacy but also unifies it under one global name, ‘Sparking Zero,’ bringing fans from all corners of the world together.

Sparking Zero will have a battle system that continues the one-vs-one 3D battle formula pioneered by its predecessors. This formula allows fans to enjoy the full freedom to move in three dimensions and feel truly immersed in the...

June saw a variety of monsters and mischief, from classic to modern horror and cute and cuddly creatures. What did you enjoy most about this lineup of titles?

How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. After the polls close we will tally your votes, and announce the winner on our social channels and PlayStation.Blog.

What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? Note: re-released games don’t qualify, but remakes do. We define remakes as ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds such as Resident Evil 4 (2023) and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

How are nominees decided? The PlayStation Blog editorial team will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll....

Astro is back with his biggest adventure yet, and I had an opportunity to play about 40 minutes in an early preview. Team Asobi’s colorful platformer is brimming with stages featuring empowering new abilities, inventive obstacles, and exciting PlayStation character cameos.

The demo packed five fun stages to explore including full levels, smaller hardcore challenges, and a wet ‘n’ wild boss fight. While only some stages were available to play in this preview, the galactic maps hint at the scale of the final game — Astro’s new adventure hosts dozens of diverse stages and tons of cameo bots to rescue.

Let’s dive in.

Dependable platforming controls

If you played through Astro’s Playroom, you already know that controlling the little bot is a tight, responsive experience. Astro still has his trusty jump, attack, charged spin attack, and versatile laser-hover ability. If Team Asobi has made major updates to the core platforming mechanics, they’re too...
