Hi! I’m Steve Bowler, lead designer on Gemini: Heroes Reborn. I’m here to share a few things about our game (which launches this week on PS4) and the way we designed it.
The Interface Should Be So Natural You Don’t Notice It
Gemini has what designers refer to as diegetic UI. Which means the game’s UI “has a reason to be displayed in the game world.” When we first started on the project, the fitness wearables market was heating up. So we did a prototype of what “Apple Glasses” might look like as the player’s main visual user interface.
I imagined SMS text bubbles as a way to cover subtitling, health apps running in the corner could monitor your vitals, etc. We wound up with something that is unobtrusive and effectively communicates the game data the player. It’s also cool how the player comes across the interface in-game. It’s natural and happens in a way that adds to the excitement of the moment when they’re sprung on you. It’s not every day we get to tie...
Hey everyone! I’ve been itching to tell you about this for the longest time, and now I finally can! We’re happy to reveal the single-player story details for Street Fighter V. There are two main components to the story experience: Character Stories and the Cinematic Story Expansion.
Character Stories
We knew there would be a lot of new players who are jumping into the franchise for the very first time, so we wanted to provide a way for everyone to become familiar with the eclectic personalities of each fighter. Each character has his or her own storyline that provides background information on what drives him or her to fight, and what that fighter’s relationships are to the other characters.

We at LOOT Interactive are thrilled to announce that Electronic Super Joy, the popular M-rated platformer, is available now for Xbox One. Electronic Super Joy is a symphony of pixelated violence, over-the-top innuendo, and rage-inducing game design. No punches are pulled with this game: one of the boss battles pits you against the Pope, armed with nothing but rainbow missiles. And, if all that wasn’t enough, Electronic Super Joy has one of the most amazing soundtracks you’ve ever heard, from EDM artist EnV. Any ravers in here? There are several incredible play modes to challenge you. In addition to the... See the rest of the story on Xbox Wire
We’re super excited to announce that the critically acclaimed Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, this generation’s best couch co-op experience (in our totally unbiased opinion), is coming to PS4 on February 9th! Hooray!
Team up with a friend (or a pet space-cat in 1P mode) and take control of a huge space battleship, dashing between turrets, engines, shields and super-weapons to battle the evil forces of Anti-Love, rescue kidnapped space-bunnies, and avoid a vacuumy demise. The League Of Very Empathetic Rescue Spacenauts (LOVERS) is depending on you!
Did we mention that Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is launching just in time for Valentine’s Day? If you have a significant other, we recommend staying in, sitting on the couch, and arguing over who has the shield, fighting over the captain’s chair, and screaming “OMG, what is that? Run!” After all, nothing says “love” like a barrage of missiles exploding into a giant robotic space beetle.
Just like the game itself, the life of Pixel Piracy has been a wonderful adventure that constantly surprises. Welcome aboard, you scallywags!
We’re thrilled to bring Pixel Piracy to PS4 alongside 505 Games and Re-Logic. Abstraction Games has done an awesome job bringing our PC indie hit to console, and we’re grateful to have them all as part of our pirate crew!
I actually wanted to get into games because I saw that Andrew Spinks (Re-Logic, Terraria fame) had been in the military and had changed his life to pursue his dreams . Likewise I was stuck in the army on the Jordanian/Iraq border getting mortared daily and thought that there was more to life than that!
Andrew really inspired me to grab my dreams, turn my life around, and make them happen. It’s funny how things turn out, because Re-Logic published the game when we were ready to launch on PC, so my dreams came utterly true!...
Hello, PlayStation fans! My name is Aurelien Loos, producer at Leikir Studio, an indie game maker in France. We’re a brand new studio and we try to bring grand new ideas to our game design. For example, our first game — Isbarah — combined action-platforming gameplay with bullet-hell (i.e. “danmaku”) action. Isbarah is a very hardcore game.
With our next game, we wanted to make something that anyone could pick up and enjoy. We also wanted to have a big focus on multiplayer — we have fond memories of playing “couch competition” games where you play with buddies right next to you. And as big PlayStation fans, it’s especially exciting for our team to bring our next title to PS4 — Wondershot!
Wondershot is a top-down, multiplayer focused party game. The controls are simple and responsive, and the rule is quite straightforward: “one shot and you’re down.” Four players can go head-to-head and use one of four weapons. Each weapon has its own special ability, which is especially useful...
After many years of development, hard work, and passion, The Witness is out next week on PS4. The crew discusses this ambitious open-world puzzler — a game that Nick has worked on since he started at PlayStation! We also assert our love for the original Mirror’s Edge, talk Trophies, and even “review” The Great British Bake Off. Enjoy the show!
